Prop 137 - Eliminates the current judicial retention process for judges
Judges would be allowed to serve until the mandatory retirement age of 70. This is written retroactively, so if it passes the entire slate of judges up for retention on this year’s ballot would stay in office. This amendment would shield our already politicized courts from public accountability, and put the Legislature into the process of reviewing judicial performance.
This is another attempt by the Legislature to reduce Arizona citizens’ role in public accountability.
